these used to be the seven sisters of the petroleum industy (esso, gulf oil, texaco, bp, shell, mobil and chevron).

the indian connection would be the northeastern states, also known as the seven sisters.

The Indian region being referred to is the North-Eastern region of India, comprising of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Tripura – collectively known as the Seven Sisters or the Seven Sister States.

Well , Big Oil refers to the Petroleum Supermajors ( 6 of em ) ..Conoco Phillips and Total S.A. in this list are not part of the 7 sisters’ list .. But , gud funda there nevertheless 🙂
